Good Morning My Country
Iraq nowdays March 24th, 2007I was listening to Kadhim Al-Sahir's new song "Good Morning My Country" and I thought to share it with you guys. This song was for the movie "My Country My Country". This movie was nominated for an Oscar a month ago as a best documentary, and was nominated for Independent Spirit Award as the best documentary too.
I hope you like it.
"There's a war going on. A lot of people have died, a lot of people will continue to die and this is a war that was started by my country. I felt that my life wasn't any more valuable or precious than anyone else's; it was worth taking that risk to tell this story." —Laura Poitras, the filmmaker.

It’s the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. The first time I heard it was when I watched the documentary here in the US on one of the channels in October 2006. It broke my heart and brought non-stop tears to my eyes.
I wrote about it on my blog here: http://baghdadtreasure.blogspot.com/2006/10/oh-my-country.html

I have not seen the documentary, unfortunately. The song grabbed my soul since I first heard it.

I share the sentiments of Laura Poitras and look forward to watching the film.

Aziah,
Its good to know that there are Americans that feel the things that are really happening in Iraq, and have the will to change it.
Thank you.

Like many of you, I was gripped by the song used in the movie. I went online looking for other recordings by Kazem; none of them (at least none of the audio clips) had the simple power of “Good Morning”. All of them had huge orchestras and excessive production.
Are any of you aware of any Kazem recordings in this simple arrangement, with just one violin (or oud or qanun or whatever)? If so, can I purchase a download?
